architect and designer was born on January 5, 1921 in Aljustrel, in Baixo Alentejo. He attended the Lisbon School of Fine Arts | ESBAL, where the Arts of Architecture, Drawing, Sculpture and Painting, combined the desire to build a different “modes vivendi”, where architecture was intrinsically linked to other creative areas. In the café gatherings, I mention here the “Leitaria Garrett” in Chiado in Lisbon, in the cloisters and corridors of the Convent of S. Francisco, everyone crossed paths and that’s how love was born. Our mother, who chose to study Sculpture, also shared the same spaces, the same School and the same gatherings. In the first years with common classes, love happened and together they shared a life. From this life equation, 8 children were born. “As a Furniture Designer, whose activity demonstrated pioneering spirit in the use and application of holm oak wood in a line of contemporary furniture, where he once again demonstrated his genius and creativity in this area, having designed and built a factory (FORMA) for this purpose in the heart of Alentejo, having contributed to the development of his land.” Source: “Jornal da Praceta”, (Information about the Parish of Alvalade, in Lisbon, Director: Carlos Fontes) In “Nosso Espaço Casa” in this beautiful blue town of Mourão, pieces of furniture designed by our father and ceramic pieces by our mother were brought together, which today form an integral part of this intimate environment that is at the same time open to friends and guests who stay here.
